Day 1

Morning: Arrival of delegates at Malta International Airport.

Hospitality and warm welcome by a local folklore dance group in the traditional costume, distribution of white and red flowers.

Transfer to Hotel.

After settling in rooms, everybody is invited to a welcome party, where members of the Malta Historical Society will also be invited and during which everybody can taste some Maltese traditional canapés and wine.

Evening: Gala Dinner and Tenue Blanche (Mysterious Malta) presided by a Maltese Historian, additional to a short slide show illustrating the programme prepared for the Holiday.

Day 2

Upper Baracca Gardens

Morning: Buffet Breakfast at Hotel.
Departure to a full day Tour to the City of Valletta with our luxurious coaches.

Starting point City Gate.

Then we proceed to the following places of interest:

  • Our Lady of Victoria (1565) - First building to be erected in La Vallette’s new city.
  • St. Catherine of Italy - Once the Church of the Langue.
  • Auberge de Castille et Leon (1574) - Prime Minister’s Office (a perfect example of 18th Century Maltese Baroque).
  • Upper Baracca Gardens - Arcaded Gardens with view of Grand Harbour.
  • Auberge d’Italie - Now the General Post Office,
  • The Castellana - The Civil and Criminal Courts during the Knights of St. John (The Pillar at the corner of the Building is believed to have been used as stocks).
  • Co-Cathedral of St. John - Malta’s greatest treasure.
  • Antonio Sciortino Monument - Monument of the dead of 1565, facing the Law Courts built on the bombed site of Auberge d’Auvergne.
  • The Bobliotheca - The Library containing more than 30,000 volumes of many great rarity.
  • Magisterial Palace - Official residence of the Grand Master and later of the British Governor.
  • The Armoury and Tapestry Chamber.
  • The Great Siege of Malta & Knights of St. John.
  • Lunch at the underground "Vaults" at the Manoel National Theatre.
After a mystery tour beneath the theatre designed around any theme.

Afternoon: Continuation of the Valletta Tour.

  • Proceed to Lower Baracca; magnificent view to the Southern shoreline and fortification of Valletta.
  • Victoria Gate - One of the Old Entrances to Valletta.
  • The Hospital of the Order of St. John - now the Mediterranean Conference Centre, restored to its Christine glory.
  • The Malta Experience - a 45 minute spectacular sound and vision show covering 5000 years of Maltese History from the Neolithic origins to present day nationhood.
  • Fort St. Elmo - Historic fortress, which played a vital part in the Knights, defence during the Great Siege.
Evening: Dinner at Hotel

Day 3

The Three Cities

Morning: Buffet Breakfast at Hotel.

Departure to the South of the Island, the Three Cities: Cospicua, Vittoriosa, Senglea, amongst the most typical and authentic tours in Malta.
Lunch at Re del Pesce (Specialised Fish restaurant) at St. Thomas Bay, Marsascala.

Afternoon:

Excursion to the Temples.

Tarxien Temples - Three Megalithic places of woship dating back to 3000 BC, the start of the Copper Age, Ghar Dalam - A cave situated at the end of the Dalam Valley in which fossilised remains of Pleistocene dwarf animals were deposited dating back 250,000 years to the period of the Ice Ages, Birzebbugia - A popular summer resort in the South, Ghar Hassan - A large natural cave surrounded by legend overlooking the Southern Cliffs with a view of the small uninhabited island of Filfla. Return to Hotel.

Day 4

The Citadel  Gozo

Morning:

Buffet Breakfast at Hotel.
Departure to Cirkewwa/Sa Maison by boat; ferry service to Gozo, Malta’s Sister Island - “Where Time Stood Still”.

Gozo Highlights:

  • Xewkija Basilica - One of the finest examples of limestone craftsmanship on the island.
  • Victoria & The Citadel - Gozo’s small capital visiting the Old Cathedral and climbing the ramparts for a superb view of the whole Island.
  • Xlendi - Picturesque summer resort.
  • Gharb Folklore Museum.
Lunch at one of Xlendi’s specialised Rabbit traditional dish (menu available).

Afternoon:
  • Ggantija Temples - Prehistoric remains.
  • The Old Windmill - A fully restored windmill in the peaceful village of Xaghra.
  • Marsalforn - Popular summer resort.
  • Ta’ Pinu - Miraculous Sanctuary - Natural shrine and centre of Pilgrimage for both Gozitans and Maltese.

Transfer to Mgarr Harbour - Departure to Cirkewwa/Sa Maison by boat ferry service.

Return to Hotel.

Evening:

Dinner at Hotel - Overnight.

Day 5

Mdina

Morning:

Buffet Breakfast at Hotel.

A Malta Special Full Day Tour. Departure to:

  • Mosta Dome - 3rd Largest unsupported dome in the World.
  • Rabat - admiring the Roman Villa and the Catacombs of St.Paul and St. Agata.
  • Ta’ Qali Crafts Village - Visiting glass works, gold and silver filigree factory and many other interesting handicrafts.
  • Lunch at La Foresta Restaurant at Ta’ Qali.
  • Continuation of tour by proceeding to Mdina, for a walk around the Narrow streets and fortifications, also visiting the Cathedral, Cathedral Museum, Mdina Dungeons.
  • After a multi-vision show at the Mdina Experience.
  • We proceed for a special reception/tea-coffee and Maltese specialities served by costumed waiters. Service on Mdina bastions.
Return to Hotel.

Evening:

Dinner at Hotel - Overnight.

Day 6

Blue Grotto

Morning:

Buffet Breakfast at Hotel.

Departure to Blue Grotto where there will be possibility of visiting the grottoes closely (boat ride weather permitting & price not included in tour):

After we proceed to the fishing villages of Birzebbugia and Marsaxlokk.
Lunch will be served in a Fish Specialised Restaurant - Rizzu Restaurant or similar.

Visiting the flea market at Marsaxlokk fishing village, traditional open air market, and popular with locals and tourists alike.

Afternoon:

Return to hotel.

Folklore Night with local Maltese traditional music and food, village brass band in attendance. A traditional evening with lots of local colours fireworks, typical dishes and wine session at a rustic style venue.

Evening:

Return to Hotel - Overnight.

Day 7

Morning:

Late Breakfast Buffet styles.

Free time.
Lunch at Hotel (optional).

Afternoon:

Siesta time excursion including Verdala Castle, Girgenti, San Anton Gardens and the oldest Pottery manufacturers in Malta - Ceramic Seracina.
Return to Hotel.

Evening:

Dinner at Hotel - Overnight.

Day 8

Morning:

Breakfast at Hotel.

Free time according to flights schedule.
Transfer to Malta International Airport for departure.

Description of Hotels

Bernard Hotel - occupies a prime position just 100 metre away from the sea in the picturesque St. George’s Bay, close to Sliema and St. Julians. Area offers shopping, dinning and entertainment. All 87 rooms are spacious, with own private facilities and furnished to a high standard. Most of rooms have balcony. There is a 24 hour reception, swimming pool and sun terrace, fully equipped business centre, air-conditioning, throughout the hotel and rooms. Colour satellite TV, dialling telephone, radio in every room.

Imperial Hotel - is renowned for its friendly and efficient service in a family atmosphere. Located in the heart of Sliema, the hotel is within ten minutes walk from the seafront, shopping area and cafes. All 95 bedrooms are spaciously comfortable furnished with bathroom, telephone and air-conditioning. There is also a restaurant, a comfortable lounge bar, a cosy TV room, and a swimming pool with pool bar (in summer only).

St.George’s Park Hotel - is located in the most active entertainment resort of Malta. Most leisure places are within walking distances. The complex offers hotel rooms & self-catering apartments with a high level standard. Facilities include, restaurants, coffee shop, indoor/outdoor pools, squash courts, sauna gym, lifts, games room and 24 hour reception service. All rooms are equipped with cooling/heating systems, radio, TV, and private bathrooms/showers, and also in rooms a small kitchenette for use equipped with all required utensils. The complex has approximately 2000 beds distributed in different blocks of apartments and rooms at the La Vallette Hotel Block.
